The tips and information offered here have been gleaned from my own experience and those of other professionals in the irrigation and turf management fields. I began a lawn care business in 1990 after twenty- four years in the U.S. Air Force. This family business started with my son and daughter; i.e., they chased the lawn mowers! Over the next few years we gradually added the sprinkler service to the business. Eventually this clientele was large enough to warrant complete concentration on lawn sprinkler services, which I realized was my real interest. After selling the lawn care business, North Star Sprinklers, Inc. was launched in 1994 and we incorporated in 1998. North Star Sprinklers, Inc. has three full time employees and a complement of part time help as projects require. I have purposefully kept the company small so that I can personally train employees. Our small company status also allows me to keep a critical eye on quality control.

Having said this, what does North Star Sprinklers, Inc., stand for? It would be dishonest to say that I am not in the business to make money. But within this context, I have a certain value system from which I operate:

1) Honesty and integrity.
I will always give you my honest opinion. If I make an error, I will own up to it and do everything I can to make it right. My word is my bond. While some may view this as a worn out cliché, it is the basis of my professional and personal life.

2) Fiscal responsibility.
I spend your money as if it were my own. If I would not do something for myself, I will not recommend it to you.

3) Quality products.
I use only proven products. For installations, this usually involves mixing brand names within a system.

4) Quality work.
I demand quality from myself and my employees. The goal is to do it right the first time.
